Great idea for a blog. I’m a huge fan of Ed’s brushwork, it’s second to none. I discovered him from The Oscar Peterson Trio. My favorite is Night Train. So amazing. It’s funny, in the liner notes it explains that due to mic placement Ed’s ride cymbal is high in the mix. Sounds about right to me! I’d love to hear or read about his thoughts on these types of subjects and any other comments on his fascinating carrier. Does he have a book out?

As I write my memoirs Ed Thigpen frequently comes to mind. The last time Edmund saw me I was sitting on stage with my fianc? where he was playing with Oscar Peterson and Ella at the Concertgebow in Amsterdam. I caught his attention at the intermission and reminded him of our early school days when Edmund was 13 and I was 11. That night Edmund escorted my fianc? and me to the plush red-carpeted reception rooms and graciously visited with us until it was time for him to return to the stage. That is one of the events nearly 50 years ago that is a fond memory that speaks to me today. I created Ed Thigpen on Pandora.com. Radio from the Music Genome Project.

Have just seen Edmund playing in Gainsborough Lincs to a very sparse audience. How sad that young people cannot connect with this music it was amazing and uplifting. Ed was so cool and laid back - very less is more. What a wonderful line up. What are we going to do for good jazz musicians when this era is gone.
Thank you Ed for a fabulous night.
